Lucas is crawling!

It's official. In a blink of an eye, Lucas figured out how to coordinate his hands and knees and is definitely crawling. And I think he's kind of fast for just learning how to do it.

Niles Canyon Railway Train of Lights

Last Friday we took Caleb on a holiday train ride. It was a very wet rainy night but we braved the rain and set out for our adventure. We got to the station pretty early and had enough time to go have a pizza dinner before the ride. When we got back to the train station we picked up our tickets and got in line. The conductor came down the line and punched our ticket just like the movie The Polar Express. Caleb was happy just to hold a ticket and give it to the conductor.

The train ride was from Niles Canyon to Sunol. The whole train was decorated with holiday lights on the inside and each car was decorated inside with lights and other holiday decor. It was very festive. You could tell who has ridden this train ride before... they were the ones equipped with holiday snacks and drinks. As newbies, we had to buy our hot chocolate, hot cider, brownie, and chocolate chip cookies from the snack bar.

When the train finally got going, Caleb got a little excited and nervous. The train got to a little bumpy start so he was wondering what was going on. He looked out the window a lot of the time but it was pretty dark out. In the middle of the trip we also passed one of the other decorated trains on its' return leg. We got out of our seats and went to an open sided car to wave to the other passengers. There was a 20 minute stop in Sunol and the troopers that we are, we got off the train to see the rest of the holiday lights on the outside of the train.

On the return trip Santa made an appearance. When Caleb saw him he immediately got shy and closed up. But not too shy to accept a candy cane from Mrs. Clause.

All in all it was a fun time. Caleb seemed to enjoy it. Maybe next year it would be funner to go in a bigger group.

Two-thirds of a year

A list of all the great (and not so great) things about my 8 month old.
  • He will just about smile at anyone who talks to him. Such a flirt!
  • He's mobile! He hasn't figured out how to crawl on his hands and knees but that doesn't stop him from getting to where he wants to go.
  • Just yesterday he pulled himself up to standing position (yikes!)
  • He is a puff-aholic and is getting better at feeding himself.
  • No teeth yet
  • He wants to play with all of Caleb's toys and none of his baby toys.
  • He grunts when he wants something like getting out of the high chair or for me to pick him up.
  • EVERYTHING goes in his mouth.
  • He loves music and has bounces up and down and with the beat too! He gets his rhythm from Jamie definitely.
  • He sleeps from about 7pm - 6am and no more feedings during that time. yipee!
  • When he likes a certain food he is a bottomless pit. When he doesn't (usually when it's a veggie) he keeps his mouth closed.
  • His favorite toy is a wooden toddler spoon. He chews on it endlessly.
  • He is absolutely scrumptious and I can't believe he's already 8 months.

Honest or manipulative?

Caleb: You done Mommy? (I was blow drying my hair)
Me: How does it look?
Caleb: Good.
Me: Are you just saying 'good' so I'll be done?
Caleb: Yes. Let's go play
They learn so young don't they?

Caleb's first visit to the dentist

Sadly, I have no pictures of Caleb's first trip to the dentist. I was prepared to take pictures but I was actively involved in the process of checking his teeth. I didn't want Caleb's first visit to involve an actual cleaning since I didn't want to traumatize him.

When we arrived Caleb went straight to the toys. He spotted the prize bin area and wanted to go there but I said he could go there AFTER he saw the dentist. We didn't have to wait long before we saw the dentist. When we went inside the room there was a train set on the floor. Of course he immediately went to that. There was another boy older than Caleb also getting his teeth checked. The dentist said, "Caleb, come watch Miguel get his teeth checked" I tried to help by saying, "Let's go watch" but Caleb was way more interested in the train.

When it was Caleb's turn, the dentist had me sit facing her and then we positioned Caleb so he was lying down on both our laps. He did a really good job at keeping his mouth open and letting the dentist count his teeth. To my dismay there are 3 teeth that could have problems and are susceptible to cavities if I don't do a good job at brushing. I could tell he was nervous but he held my hands a little tight but didn't freak out or cry. And just that fact alone makes the trip a success!

I did manage to get this short clip of him in the dentist waiting room.

We go back in 3 months for an actual cleaning. I hope it goes just as well.

Pants and Shirt

Last Christmas Jamie's aunt gave matching pajamas. Caleb and Jamie's matched and Lucas and mine matched. Not exactly sure when it started but Jamie and Caleb started wearing their matching pajamas every Friday night while we had pizza and watched a movie. Caleb started calling them "pants and shirt" and would be SOOO excited when it was time to wear them. I guess he knew that it meant pizza and a movie. Caleb has already outgrown his but INSISTS on wearing them. I have to squeeze his big head in the size 2T shirt. He is the only one that doesn't mind that the sleeves and pants are 2 inches short and you can see his belly. Saying that he loves them is an understatement.

Picture of Caleb and Jamie (wearing the pants only) taken in February 2010.

Picture of Caleb wearing the set. Taken last month.

Lucas and I wearing our matching set. Taken in June.

Lucas and Santa

We thought Lucas' first Santa picture should be solo. We dressed him up in the same reindeer outfit that we put Caleb in for his first Santa picture. I think Lucas looks super cute but I don't think Santa was in a very jolly mood. We went on a Tuesday morning and it wasn't super crowded at all.
