Imaginary friend

So for a while now Caleb says "Nonny" (NAW-NEE). I don't know what he's really trying to say because he can say "Mommy". But I think because I've responded to it he says it to call me.

Today he was saying it again repeatedly. And I said, "Who is Nonny? Is Nonny your imaginary friend?" He paused a bit and replied, "Yeah" which just made me laugh out loud.

A few moments later I repeated the question and got the same response.

Caleb's very own Mary Poppins

So Caleb has a part time nanny that takes care of him 17 hours a week spread over 3 days. The nanny allows me to work, run errands without dragging Caleb with me, and on occasion some ME time.

When she first started about 3 months ago, we would go answer the door, he would see her and suddenly cling to me. The nanny would pry him from my arms and go to the playroom and I would go to the office, close the door and work. Minutes later I would hear him laughing and playing. But it would be the same routine every morning she came.

I got worried that he didn't like her and/or they just weren't bonding.

These days, the doorbell rings and he runs to the door, sees the nanny and doesn't cry when she picks him up and goes to the playroom. Just a minute ago, I left the office door open as they were leaving for the park. I yelled out "bye Caleb, have fun" He runs back to the office door waves and says bye and runs out the door again smiling.

It was so cute. But now I have a complex... maybe he has more fun with the nanny than with me? In any case I think he's happy.

I have no pictures of Caleb and the nanny but thought I'd add a random picture of him anyways.

cradling and football

I have to mention 2 things before I tell this story. 1) Jamie watches football with Caleb. and 2) I've been trying to teach Caleb the sign for "baby" which basically is the motion of rocking a baby back and forth.

This morning Caleb and I were in the playroom. Caleb was pulling books out of the bookshelf to read. He pulled out his "USC 101" book and turned to the Sports & Athletics page of the book that displays a bunch of balls - Caleb's favorite thing in the world.

I said, "Do you like watching football on tv with Daddy?"
Caleb, "Yeah"

He then picked up the remote control that's in the playroom.

I said, "There's no tv in here Caleb. Do you want to go watch football?"
Caleb, "Yeah"

He then leaves the room and goes to the family room and points to the tv. I turn on the tv and turn it to a football game. He's sitting on the couch for a bit. On the tv, a player just ran in the end zone and scored a touchdown.

Caleb then says, "baby" and also does the sign for it
I said, "where's the baby?"

Luckily for instant replay I caught the play again and my guess is Caleb saw the football player holding a football in his arm much like how you would hold a baby in your arms as well as how you sign "baby".

Just thought this was funny to get a glimpse of how their little brains work.

Soccer player in the making

Today I took Caleb to a park and remembered to bring a ball. Most of the time he ran around the grass kicking the ball. Also at the park was a brother and sister kicking a soccer ball to each other. Caleb would stop and watch them every once in a while. One time I noticed the girl set the ball down, walk a few steps back and then run toward the ball to kick it. Later I saw Caleb do the same thing. It was the cutest thing!

Here's a video of him kicking the ball around. Towards the end he got distracted by the dog that was running around. That dog had gotten a little too close to Caleb earlier and he got scared.

16 month update

What can I say about Caleb that I haven't said before? He's a fun and funny little guy.
  • He STILL loves balls and balloons. He can throw a ball pretty well and loves to throw and chase after the ball. It can be entertaining.
  • He's picking up a little Spanish from his Spanish speaking nanny. I've asked him "Do you want water?" He'll respond "agua agua agua" and point to his straw cup of water.
  • Anything round to him is either 1) ball 2) balloon or 3) moon.
  • He is transitioning to one nap (much to my dismay).
  • The other day he pointed to my belly and said baby which surprised me because I haven't emphasized the new baby is coming a whole lot. Probably was a fluke.
  • Taking a bath is a hit or miss. Some days he likes it and others he won't sit down.
  • He had his second haircut and hated every minute of it.
  • He can climb on the couch and go up small steps standing. Going down steps he'll reach for my hand for help.
  • He likes to turn light switches on/off and press buttons
  • He can sign milk, more, please, and eat. We're working on thank you.
  • He can say no, yeah, uh-oh, up, bird, honey, mommy, daddy, ball, moon, balloon, shoes, and bubbles.
  • He loves to draw lines with chalk.
  • He can be shy at times (like mom!) and usually needs a little time to warm up.
I'm amazed at how much he understands. Definitely way more than he can say. I love watching his personality come through more and more each day.

Caleb's table

A friend of mine bought an IKEA toddler table and painted it with Milk Paint. After seeing her results I figured I could do it too. I chose a green colored paint and mixed it in with white.

It doesn't have decals like my friend's table and if you look close you'll see all the reasons why I shouldn't be a professional painter or how I'm far from being Martha Stewart but I'm happy with what I've done.

I will bet in 2 years time, the table will be unrecognizable

Baby#2

Baby Breslow #2 is due April 20th! I've been asked if this was a planned pregnancy and I have to say yes and no. Yes, because we did start trying and no because it happened faster than we thought it would. Caleb and this baby will be 21 months apart. I'm 16 weeks pregnant and feel really good. My belly has already popped out and am already wearing maternity clothes. The big difference in my pregnancy this time around is I had really bad food aversions. I didn't want to eat, nothing seemed appetizing, and I spit out a lot of food. Thank goodness that phase has passed.

Since this isn't my first pregnancy I thought I didn't have to do belly shots but I was convinced otherwise. Here's how I look now
