49er Rush
My sisters convinced me to do the 49er Rush 5k (technicall it was 4.9k) with them at Levi's Stadium. I decided to make a red sparkly running skirt as part of my outfit. The funny thing... as I was running some lady came up to me and asked where I got my skirt. When I told her I sewed it myself she said I could start selling them. haha!

SIX!
Caleb's 6th birthday was full of celebrations. There was the actual birthday, then a party with friends, then a dinner with family. His birthday party was at a local arcade and Caleb chose an Angry Birds Space theme. Considering the party was in the middle of the summer and on a Friday evening a lot of kids from school were able to attend. The venue makes it easy by passing out cups with tokens and bags to hold their tickets. I ordered pizza and got an ice cream birthday cake. I put together a candy bar and let the kids fill their own goody bags. It seemed like the party went by really fast. The dinner with family turned into a pool party with burgers and spaghetti for dinner (Caleb's favorites) and a bowl of ice cream instead of cake. It was a very fun filled weekend.

LegoLand 2014
Ever since our first trip to Legoland we knew we were coming back. We didn't think it would be 2.5 years later but we made it back. It was somewhat of a last minute decision. We were going to be in LA for 4th of July and thought we could sneak in a trip down to Legoland. It was close to Caleb's birthday so we thought we could surprise him with the trip.
We stayed at the brand new Legoland hotel for two nights. We requested a pirate themed room. It had bunk beds for the boys but neither of the boys wanted to sleep in them. Caleb was creeped out by the pirate lady "staring" down at the top bunk.
We bought park hopper tickets and went to the waterpark in the afternoon. It was kind of a bust because it wasn't too hot and the lines were long. It also didn't start off well. We chose one of the pool areas that had slides to hang out and were putting our flip flops on the side. Well, I look behind me to get Lucas and he is NOWHERE to be found. That little stinker took off and didn't bother telling me or Jamie. Jamie and I spent the next TEN LONG minutes looking for him IN the pool. I think I had a heart attack and was going to throw up. Granted the pool was really shallow and Lucas is a pretty good swimmer but we were IN a pool and I was separated from my 4 year old. Needless to say when we finally found him he was happily splashing in the pool having fun. Jamie and I didn't hold back and soon we had a crying 4 year old. After we all calmed down we went on the slides. Like I said the waterpark was a bit of a bust because the weather wasn't ideal. We didn't stay long.
It was a fun time overall. The Legoland hotel was fun especially the elevator. Upon checking in the boys had to do a scavenger hunt which would reveal the combination to the lock on the treasure chest in our room. When we opened it there some mini Lego packs and chocolate coins. The scavenger hunt was a hit especially since we arrived early and our room wasn't ready yet. Also in the lobby of the hotel was a castle and tons of legos to play with.

Turks & Caicos 2014
My father-in-law got engaged last November. He and his fiancee wanted to get their respective families together for a big family vacation and chose Beaches Resort in Turks & Caicos as the destination. Our trip started with a red eye flight to Miami. Never again am I doing a red-eye to the east coast. I am too anxious that the kids will not sleep or be too loud that I don't end up sleeping. We were all extremely tired from the flight and unfortunately our room wasn't ready at the Miami airport hotel until about 9am (we landed around 6am). We all took naps and by the time we woke up we decided to head down to Miami Beach to meet up with Jamie's cousins who live in the area. Our plan was to go walk around the beach and hang out until our dinner reservation but right when we got there, we got caught in a massive downpour. We were soaked! After the downpour we went to Joe's Stone Crab. Jamie's cousin, wife and daughter met us there. It was a mini reunion and we got to meet Jamie's cousin's daughter for the first time.
Beaches is an all-inclusive resort with tons to do for all ages. I was looking forward to some quiet time on the beach and going to the gym. I did both. The boys loved the kids camp, the waterpark and just being in the pool. I think they especially loved the evening trip to Bobby Dee's for ice cream. Jamie golfed, snorkeled, and did a deep sea fishing excursion. We also took the boys on a semi submerged boat to see reefs and turtles. We had a great time as a family and getting to know soon to be family members.

Kindergarten is done!
Caleb is done with kindergarten! At times I thought the year was dragging but now all of a sudden it's done. During this last week he brought home many projects that were completed during the year. His progress report was great. He needs to work on speaking in complete sentences. I think it's safe to say he loves school. I hope he's ready for first grade!

Field Day 2014
Caleb's school holds a Field Day school wide event. The school is divided into 8 color teams (black, white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). Each team has kids from K-6. It's a friendly and fun competition that hopefully promotes sportsmanship and team building. I volunteered to be a kinder chaperone and snack coordinator. As a kinder chaperone I walked the kinders to each event and made sure they knew what to do. The events were 1) long jump 2) dirty diaper toss (tossing a foam ball soaked in a tub water) 3) 3 legged race 4) obstacle course 5) fill the bucket 6) water balloon toss 7) relay race and 8) tug-of-war
At each event except the tug-of-war the kids are competing against their grade level. Caleb was on the white team. Each kid was scheduled to participate in 5 of the 7 events. There were four other kinders on his team but unfortunately one was absent and one girl did not want to participate in any event. Luckily the remaining four took up the slack and basically participated in each event. They were troopers!
The funniest events to watch were the 3 legged race and the water balloon toss. Our team teacher advised them to count one(inner leg), two(outer leg), one, two and link their arms together. Caleb and his partner did well and won their heat. But when it came to the final heat, I think they forgot their strategy and kind of hopped/trotted together. They did end up getting 2nd place though.
The water balloon toss was funny because catching is one of those skills that 5/6 year olds are still trying to learn. There was a practice round where I think there was only one team that caught the water balloon or more likely the balloon just didn't pop when it landed on the ground. They were told that if your balloon burst then you were to sit down. In that first round, everyone's balloon burst. It might've been a kindergarten record. So funny. Everyone was given a second balloon for a do-over. In that round, most balloons were popped except for maybe 5. It took another 3 rounds to determine the winner. Caleb and his partner got 2nd place.
The most exciting event was the relay race. Since our team only had four participants one kid had to run twice. Caleb volunteered but another kid volunteered first. In our heat we placed first which meant we got to go to the final heat. In the final heat Caleb got to run twice. I was cheering a whole bunch and helping make sure the next kid who was to run was ready. As it turned out, Caleb's team got first place! I really wish I had a video of him running but I got caught up in the moment of cheering him on. At the end of all the competition, the winners were announced. All throughout the day teachers were given out coins when they saw good sportsmanship. The kids then dropped them into their team jar. Caleb's team won first place for sportsmanship and received a medal! It was a very fun event and I hope Caleb enjoys it every year.
