11 month Lucas

I'm in disbelief that my baby is 11 months old.

• He loves music. In his Music Together class he will twist his body to the music
• He is cruising A LOT
• He can crawl FAST
• He is always hungry and will eat just about anything
• He loves to clap
• Two more teeth are starting to come in
• He had his first ear infection (in both ears)
• He caught some kind of bug and went through a week of diarrhea and the BRAT diet
• He can hold his own bottle
• He is ticklish and has such an adorable laugh 

Playing Together

Jamie and I joke all the time about looking forward to the day when the boys can play together. There's a limit to the amount of times we can build houses with Legos, build houses with blocks, and say "Choo Choo" around the train tracks without going bonkers.

So when we see things like this Jamie and I look at each other and say "Yes!"

Sheep Shearing Day

Today is the first day of Spring and it was Sheep Shearing Day at Hidden Villa. This event gets sold out early every year so we were excited that we got tickets. It's been non stop rain for the past two days and so we weren't sure if we were going to go anymore. When we woke up it was gray skies but no rain so we thought we'd still go.

I think the weather put Caleb in a funky mood. He didn't want to wear his rain boots but we forced him to since it was going to be muddy at the farm. He liked watching the sheep getting sheared but didn't want to check out anything else. Soon after he saw the sheep get his haircut he announced he wanted to go home. He was a little whiny the whole time too so we just let it go and went home. On the walk back to the parking lot he was whining about something and after asking him "What's the matter?" about a dozen times without getting an answer I decided that I reached my limit and started walking ahead. Of course I glanced back at him every so often to make sure he was still behind me but there's only so much I can take. I chalked up his bad mood to being tired. Yesterday we went to my brother in law's 40th birthday party and he didn't take an afternoon nap and stayed up until about 9pm. But he still woke up at his regular time - 6ish AM.

In the end it was interesting to see the sheep getting sheared. Because of the rain, they didn't have a sheep herding demonstration so we were bummed about that. Hopefully next year, the rain will stay away and we can participate in all the activities.

Consequences

Me: Caleb, let's clean up your Legos
Caleb:  No, I want to go eat mac and cheese
Me: If you don't help me clean up the Legos then you won't be able to play with them until tomorrow.
Caleb: ok (goes upstairs to eat lunch)

Jamie: Caleb, so you can't play with your legos the rest of the day since you didn't help clean them up

Caleb: I can play with them tomorrow, right Mommy?

On the one hand, he understood what we were saying but I don't think he really "got" the lesson.

Best Friends

While we were playing with legos...

Caleb: Mommy? hug?
Me: Of course! I love you Caleb
Caleb: I love you too Mommy. We're best friends.

Don't touch ANYTHING!

I had lunch plans with a couple of girlfriends and their daughters. I arrived at the restaurant about 15 minutes early. That morning I was in a bit of a rush and forgot to take Caleb to the potty before we left the house. So by the time I got to the restaurant I knew it was time for him to go. I was thankful that Caleb can pee standing up and I thought that meant less touching of things in a public bathroom. I was wrong! He was about to put up the toilet seat and I practically screamed "Don't touch that!" When he was done he wanted to close the seat and again I yelled "Don't touch that!" Oh and did I mention that while all this was going on, Lucas was strapped in the changing table crying because he was strapped in. Oh my baby Lucas - I understand you need to explore the world but can you please do Mommy a favor and stay still and calm down? Apparently not.

After going to the potty, I thought to myself, I'm glad Caleb already pooped this morning because THAT would be a whole other ordeal. We went back to the waiting area where luckily they had a kids table with a fire truck to play with. That kept Caleb occupied long enough for me to make a bottle and start feeding Lucas. I jinxed myself because that's when Caleb announced, "I need to go poo poo" Oh crap (no pun intended). We went back to the bathroom and while I was strapping Lucas back into the changing table and trying to settle him down and give him his bottle, Caleb decides to pull his own pants down and climb on the potty. AAGGHHH!! WAIT!!! I grabbed a seat protector. At home it's "I need help" when he needs to pull his pants down. But in the public bathroom you do it yourself?? While this was going on Lucas decides to chuck his bottle on the floor and he's crying because he wants it. When Caleb was done (and thank goodness he was quick) he got off and almost touched the floor while bending down. "DON'T TOUCH THE FLOOR!" "DON'T TOUCH THE POTTY!"

At that moment I really wished he was still in diapers.

Roaring Camp

On Saturday we went to Roaring Camp in Felton to go ride on the steam train. We got to ride in the  caboose. I was worried about Lucas and how we were going to handle sitting on the train with a baby who doesn't sit still. Luckily our train car wasn't filled and he spent a lot of the time standing. He wasn't tall enough to see outside of the train when he stood on the floor but it was cute that he kept trying to go on his little tippy toes and look out. He also did some cruising along the bench seating. Caleb loved it. We pointed out all the signals on the way, the switches, the magnificent redwood trees, and he was in awe of all the steam that came out of the engine. It was a great family adventure. We probably will go back when Thomas the Train is there.

Double Ear Infection

The pediatrician said February was a busy month filled with sick kids. Our poor baby Lucas has a double ear infection. Just like with Caleb, the reason why I brought him to the pediatrician was a cough that wouldn't go away. He didn't really show any other symptoms. I hope he gets over it fast.

Preschool pickup

Some days when I pick Caleb up from preschool, he doesn't want to leave. He takes a super long time to put toys away. Sometimes I can see the disappointment in his face when he sees me walk through the door.

Today when I picked him up he saw me and yelled, "Mommy!" and literally ran to me to give me a hug. While walking to the car, I said "I missed you" He replied, "I missed you too. How about a hug?"

I just about cried in the parking lot.
